Hemispherical Head Manufacturing Procedure

Material Preparation

Select appropriate metal material, usually carbon steel or stainless steel depending on the application. Ensure the material meets the required quality standards in terms of strength, ductility, and chemical composition. Cut the material into a circular disk with a diameter slightly larger than the desired hemisphere diameter to account for forming shrinkage.

Forming

Hot Forging (if applicable)

Heat the circular disk to a suitable temperature to make it more malleable. Place it in a forging die with a hemispherical cavity and apply pressure using a press or hammer to deform the metal gradually into the hemisphere shape. Allow it to cool slowly after forging to prevent cracking due to rapid temperature changes.

Cold Forming

For thinner materials or when high precision is needed, use cold forming. Place the circular disk between a male and female die with hemispherical profiles and apply pressure using a mechanical press. This may be done in multiple steps with intermediate annealing to relieve stress and improve formability.

Machining

Trim the edges of the formed hemisphere on a lathe or milling machine to achieve the correct diameter and a smooth edge. If there are requirements for holes, use drilling or other machining processes to create them with accurate positioning and size.

Quality Inspection

Check the dimensional accuracy using measuring tools like calipers and micrometers. Conduct visual inspection for surface defects such as cracks or scratches. Employ nondestructive testing methods like ultrasonic testing or radiographic testing to detect internal flaws. Any parts not meeting the quality standards are either repaired or rejected.

Surface Treatment

Clean the hemispherical head to remove contaminants. Apply surface coatings like paint or corrosion-resistant coatings if needed to enhance its performance and appearance.

Packaging and Shipment

Package the hemispherical head in a suitable protective material to prevent damage during transportation. Label the package with relevant information and ship it to the desired location.
